One April blooming narcissus, N. x medioluteus (also called \"Twin Sisters\" or \"April Beauty\") affords the opportunity of a late bloom and varying colors other than the traditional yellow. The dramatic yellow color of the inner cup draws the attention of the passerby. You often find this bloom in pastures and abandoned home sites. N\u003cem\u003earcissus x medioluteus\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e also goes by the name \"April Beauty,\" and was grown by some of the earliest gardeners in America.  It is a natural hybrid of \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eNarcissus poeticus\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, sometimes called 'Pheasant's Eye,' and the \u003cem\u003eNarcissus tazetta\u003c\/em\u003e. \u003c\/span\u003eThis bloom has been around since the 16th century. \u003cspan\u003eI visited with Peggy Cornett, who is the Curator of Plants at Monticello for the Thomas Jefferson Foundation. She has been at Monticello since 1983. While the bulb wasn't specifically listed as a flower bulb there in the garden, it is often seen along old gardens and river banks in the area.
