Favorite Garden Tool!
The Southern Bulb Co. is now offering our favorite garden tool. This CobraHead Original Weeder is made in the USA, at just over 13 inches long. This tool makes planting in any kind of soil easy, even clay. No more digging huge holes for small bulbs. You can just stick this in the ground, pull back the earth a little, put the bulb in, and let go to let the earth cover the bulb. The tempered steel blade is designed to let you dig exactly where you want without sacrificing durability. This tool is excellent for planting and weeding. The composite grip is perfect for right- or left-handed gardeners.
We also offer the mini! While it's smaller in size compared to the regular version, it delivers the same exceptional performance.
More Than a Planter: It also pulls weeds, loosens packed soil, digs a furrow, edges a bed, and lifts out a clump of bulbs to divide. It does most of what a whole bucket of hand tools does. It’s especially good for pulling grass that has crept into a bed and for lifting small tap-rooted weeds out whole.
Why We Carry It: It’s our favorite garden tool. Everyone in our office has bought one for home, and we use it constantly at the farm for planting bulbs, weeding and digging everywhere. Customers who have been gardening for 50 years tell us they now use it more than any other tool they own.
If you’ve ever cut a bulb in half with a shovel, this is the fix.

Which Size Is Right for You? The regular is the workhorse, with more reach and more leverage for planting in bigger beds and open ground. The mini is narrower and lighter, and it fits tight spots, containers and smaller hands. Many gardeners end up with one of each.
Built to Last: The blade is tempered steel, so it holds up against clay, roots and rocks. The handle is a hard composite that works in either hand. It’s made in Wisconsin, and it’s the kind of tool you buy once.

How to Plant Bulbs With It: Push the blade into the ground, pull the soil back toward you, and drop the bulb into the pocket behind the blade. Then let go, and the earth falls back over the bulb. You don’t need a shovel or a big hole for a small bulb, and it works even through turf and hard clay. It’s good for smaller bulbs like rain lilies, oxbloods and spider lilies as well as larger bulbs like paperwhites and crinums.
