A brightly colored, multi-flowering Narcissus that is great for forcing in the spring. Have you longed to force a daffodil for the spring season? Enjoy it in your garden as well, as this brightly colored, almost orange-red cupped Narcissus tazetta will spice up your beds. This American-bred treasure comes from the famed Oregon hybridizer Grant Mitsch.
Blooms: Expect up to 6-8 small, fragrant florets per stalk, each with golden yellow petals and a short, almost orange-red cup. The clusters stand about 12-14" tall and open in early to mid spring. Like most tazettas, they are lovely as cut flowers and will perfume a room.
Planting: Plant the bulb like most daffodils in 6+ hours of winter sun, well-drained soil, avoid standing water, and avoid too much competition. Plant the bulbs about 2-3 times the height of the bulb deep (so if the bulb is 1 inch tall, plant it 2-3 inches deep). If you are farther north and get very cold during the winter, you may want to plant it about 4-6 inches deep. Space the holes about 3-6 inches apart, and for a more natural looking display, consider planting 2-3 bulbs in each hole.
Pots: 'Falconet' is a good choice for containers and forcing. Set the bulbs close together, shoulder to shoulder, in a pot with good drainage, and treat them much like paperwhites for blooms indoors.
Landscaping Tip: Narcissus bloom at different times so as one daffodil is ending its bloom time another is just beginning. Tuck 'Falconet' along a walkway or near a porch where you can enjoy its fragrance up close.
