Hymenocallis 'Super Star' is a major showstopper — combining towering height, huge blooms, and glossy foliage. It's garden-worthy and container-friendly. The Hymenocallis 'Super Star' is similar to the tropical giant but grows 3 to 4 feet tall! The summer white, spidery blooms measure almost 1 foot from tip to tip! The foliage is glossier, darker, and wider than the more familiar Tropical Giant. It loves our hot, humid Southern summers and makes a bold statement wherever you put it.

Blooms: In summer, clusters of large, pure white, spidery flowers rise just above the foliage. Each bloom has long, slender, curving petals around a delicate white cup, and the whole flower measures almost a foot from tip to tip. The plant itself reaches about 3 to 4 feet tall and forms a clump about 3 feet wide, with glossy, dark green, strap-like leaves that look great all season even when it is not in bloom.
Planting: These are grown in 2 gallon pots. The foliage is about 3 1/2 feet tall so we will take them out of the pot to ship them to you. Plant the bulb at the same depth it was growing in the pot, with the neck of the bulb at or just above the soil surface, and space plants about 2-3 feet apart so each clump has room to fill out. The Super Star does best in moist soils, but you can see how well they are doing in pots that are watered every couple of days! They need at least 8 hours a day of sun, but they perform best in full sun. Water well after planting and keep the soil evenly moist while it gets established. Plant from spring through summer; they are hardy in about zones 7b-10.
Landscaping Tip: Use 'Super Star' as a bold focal point in a sunny bed, along a pond or other damp spot, or in a large container on the patio. Its big, glossy foliage makes a great backdrop for smaller summer bloomers like rain lilies.
