The Narcissus ‘Accent’ bulb provides your garden with a unique bloom. The star-shaped white petals surround an apricot frilly center, and these large bulbs produce massive blooms at 3+ inches across. Bred by the famous Oregon daffodil breeder Grant Mitsch and registered in 1960, 'Accent' is a classic American pink-cupped daffodil that still turns heads in the spring garden today.
Blooms: Crisp white petals frame a large, frilled cup in shades of apricot and salmon-pink. The flowers are 3+ inches across on sturdy stems about 16-20 inches tall, and they open in mid-spring. They make wonderful cut flowers.
Sun: Consider planting these lovely large bulbs in filtered winter sunlight rather than full winter sun. The filtered sun will allow the apricot centers to reach their full color potential and not be "bleached out" by the sun. Since you are planting them in filtered sun, try to plant them where they will receive close to 6 hours.
Planting: Plant the bulb like most daffodils in 6+ hours of winter sun, well-drained soil, avoid standing water, and avoid too much competition. Plant the bulbs about 2-3 times the height of the bulb deep (so if the bulb is 1 inch tall, plant it 2-3 inches deep). If you are farther north and get very cold during the winter, you may want to plant it about 4-6 inches deep. Space the holes about 3-6 inches apart, and for a more natural looking display, consider planting 2-3 bulbs in each hole.
Landscaping Tip: Narcissus bloom at different times so as one daffodil is ending its bloom time another is just beginning. Pair 'Accent' with early and late daffodils so your garden carries color from late winter through spring.
Animals: Like other daffodil bulbs, critters, including deer and gophers, generally leave this bulb alone.
