The Narcissus ‘Acropolis’ bulb is a special bulb. This large bulb (14+ cm) is a double daffodil, which means that there are petals upon petals. This lovely daffodil looks like a white gardenia at first, but deep in the center is a combination of reds and oranges that gives the blooms depth and uniqueness within the daffodil world. It is a wonderful way to stretch your daffodil season into late spring.
Blooms: Fully double, snow-white to soft cream petals with small ruffles of red-orange tucked into the center. The blooms are almost 3" across on stems about 18-20 inches tall, and they open in mid to late spring (April/May), toward the end of the daffodil season. The flowers are fragrant and make lovely cut flowers.
Planting: Plant the bulb like most daffodils in 6+ hours of winter sun, well-drained soil, avoid standing water, and avoid too much competition. Plant the bulbs about 2-3 times the height of the bulb deep (so if the bulb is 1 inch tall, plant it 2-3 inches deep). If you are farther north and get very cold during the winter, you may want to plant it about 4-6 inches deep. Space the holes about 3-6 inches apart, and for a more natural looking display, consider planting 2-3 bulbs in each hole.
Landscaping Tip: Because 'Acropolis' blooms late in the season, plant it alongside earlier daffodils so that as one is finishing, another is just beginning, carrying color through the whole spring.
Animals: Like other daffodil bulbs, critters, including deer and gophers, generally leave this bulb alone.
