The Narcissus 'Minnow' is a lovely little spring bloom that packs a lot of flowers onto a small plant. This miniature tazetta is perfect for the front of a bed, a rock garden, or a pot by the door, and it makes a great bulb to force for indoors or cut from your flowerbed and bring inside.
Blooms: Each stem carries 4-5 small flowers. Each flower's petals range from white to ivory to a pale yellow, all with darker yellow cups. The plants stand only about 7-8" tall and bloom in mid-spring. Like other tazettas, the flowers are fragrant.
Planting: Plant the bulb like most daffodils in 6+ hours of winter sun, well-drained soil, avoid standing water, and avoid too much competition. Plant the bulbs about 2-3 times the height of the bulb deep (so if the bulb is 1 inch tall, plant it 2-3 inches deep). If you are farther north and get very cold during the winter, you may want to plant it about 4-6 inches deep. Space the holes about 3-6 inches apart, and for a more natural looking display, consider planting 2-3 bulbs in each hole.
Pots: 'Minnow' is just the right size for containers. Set the bulbs close together in a pot with good drainage for a full little display on the porch or the windowsill.
Animals: Like all daffodils, 'Minnow' is not bothered by deer, rabbits, or squirrels.
