The Narcissus 'Sweetness' is everything people think of when you mention daffodil. This bulb appeared around 1939! It multiplies quickly, and within a couple of years you may well be sharing some of the bulbs with friends and neighbors.

Blooms: 'Sweetness' is a jonquilla-type daffodil with lovely deep golden-yellow petals and a perfect yellow cup. It will bloom in late March or early April, and stems often carry more than one bloom. It is one of the taller jonquils, around 14-16" tall, and it is hardy in zones 4-9.

Planting: Plant the bulb like most daffodils in 6+ hours of winter sun, well-drained soil, avoid standing water, and avoid too much competition. Plant the bulbs about 2-3 times the height of the bulb deep (so if the bulb is 1 inch tall, plant it 2-3 inches deep). If you are farther north and get very cold during the winter, you may want to plant it about 4-6 inches deep. Space the holes about 3-6 inches apart, and for a more natural looking display, consider planting 2-3 bulbs in each hole.
Landscaping Tip: This bloom should really be planted where you can enjoy its fragrance, like near the mailbox, your porch, or where the spring breeze can bring the sweet scent from this daffodil to you.
Fragrance: Like other jonquils, 'Sweetness' has a strong, sweet fragrance that you will notice in the garden and in a vase. The scent also draws bees and butterflies.
